APPLE TREES DONATED BY THE THATCHERS COMMUNITY ORCHARD PROJECT

Parish Councillor, Steve Hodson, part of the Recreation Ground Working Group, applied to Thatchers, the cider maker, for apple trees to start off an orchard in the Recreation Ground. Steve's application was successful and we're delighted to announce that 10 trees have now arrived and will be planted on Saturday 8 March at 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to join Steve and other Parish Councillors to lend a hand (and a spade if you have one) with the planting.

The trees being planted include a selection of apple varieties, including both eating and cider apples. They include the popular eating apple Cox and Bramley, a favourite for cooking.

This is the fourth year that fourth generation cider maker Thatchers has offered trees to groups through its Community Orchard Project. With 500 trees in total to be given away this year, Martin Thatcher, who planted his first apple tree in Somerset at the age of just five, says, “From a single apple tree to a community orchard, it can make such a difference to people’s well-being which is why we’re delighted to be donating these apple trees through our Community Orchard Project".
